Mathrubhumi has unveiled its Onam campaign, ‘Manassil Ennum Maveli’ (The Spirit of Maveli Lives On), shifting the festive conversation from familiar visual tropes to the people who embody Kerala’s enduring values. Instead of relying on iconic Onam imagery such as Pulikali or Pookalam, the campaign spotlights individuals whose lifelong work reflects the ideals associated with the legendary reign of Maveli.
Four Stories, One Cultural Narrative
The campaign features four distinguished personalities representing diverse yet interconnected fields. Padma Shri Meenakshi Amma brings the legacy of Kalaripayattu to new generations through decades of practice and teaching. Padma Shri Kolakil Devaki Amma is recognised for her commitment to environmental conservation, while Padma Shri Lakshmikutty continues to preserve Kerala’s rich tradition of herbal medicine.
Completing the narrative are technologists Devan and Devika Chandrashekhar, whose innovations focus on building technology-led solutions rooted in Kerala’s needs.
A Brand Play Anchored in Purpose
By centring the campaign on four changemakers spanning culture, ecology, healthcare and technology, Mathrubhumi positions Onam as a celebration of values rather than visual nostalgia. The approach mirrors a broader advertising trend where authenticity, community impact and regional storytelling are becoming stronger brand assets than festive symbolism alone.
The Last Word
As brands compete for festive attention, campaigns that transform cultural heritage into contemporary relevance are likely to generate deeper engagement, stronger recall and longer-lasting emotional equity.
