Emami Agrotech Enters India's Snacking Arena

Emami Agrotech, the food and agri-business arm of the Emami Group, has entered India's packaged snacking category with the launch of its new consumer brand, WeMe.

According to a businessline report, the company has introduced three products—Choco Hazelnut Spread, Potato Chips and Jhuri Aloo Bhaja—marking its first step into the fast-growing snacking segment.

Production for the newly launched portfolio is currently being outsourced, while the company prepares to build in-house manufacturing capabilities. Over the next few months, Emami Agrotech plans to expand WeMe into additional product categories, broadening its presence across the packaged foods market.

Brand balances manufacturing expansion with aggressive brand building

Backing the expansion is an investment commitment of approximately Rs 750 crore over the next three years. The company will allocate Rs 400 crore towards establishing an integrated greenfield manufacturing facility in West Bengal, with construction expected to be completed over the next two years.

Another Rs 350 crore has been earmarked for branding and marketing initiatives to build awareness and accelerate market penetration. The facility will support both the company's snacking portfolio and its staples business.

Emami Agrotech's investment strategy reflects a dual-focus growth model—building manufacturing scale while simultaneously investing heavily in brand creation.

The Last Word

With nearly 47% of the planned outlay dedicated to marketing, the company is signalling that in India's increasingly competitive packaged foods market, sustained brand visibility will be as critical as production capacity in winning long-term consumer loyalty.
