Bayer Turns a Shared Name Into a Brand Hook

Bayer's Consumer Health Division has found a playful route into a crowded category. Its new digital campaign for Alka-Seltzer pairs the brand with playback singer Alka Yagnik. The idea is simple. Two Alkas. One owns matters of the heart. The other tackles heartburn.

A Name, a Contrast and a Slice of Life

The film, titled 'Alka Meets Alka', plays on that contrast. It follows a slice-of-life narrative built around everyday experiences. The format is short-form, designed for digital and social platforms. Bayer positions Alka-Seltzer as an antacid with probiotics.

Sandeep Verma, head of South Asia, Bayer's Consumer Health Division, says a new brand must enter the consideration set fast. A cultural connection, he says, helps people recognise and remember it.

He also notes that this is Yagnik's first brand partnership.

Breaking Category Convention

Ritu Mittal, head of Marketing and Digital for the South Asia Cluster, says antacid advertising leans on familiar storylines. The team wanted something different. Her goal is familiarity and recall from day one. Yagnik says she has known and trusted the brand personally.

The Last Word

Distinctiveness now beats category cliché. A name-based device is cheap to remember and easy to extend into new episodes. Expect more launch brands to pair culture with short digital stories. The test ahead is whether recall turns into trial, and trial into repeat purchase.
