Freyr Energy Signs Rohit Sharma to Sell Solar as a Long Game

Freyr Energy has named cricketer Rohit Sharma its first brand ambassador. The rooftop solar company has also launched a nationwide campaign, 'Solar Ho, Toh Freyr Ho!'. It went live on September 30.

A Campaign Built on Longevity

The idea is simple. A solar system lasts a long time, so the provider matters. Freyr wants homeowners to choose for the long term, not just for installation day.

Saurabh Marda, co-founder and Managing Director, says the aim is to raise expectations across the 30-year life of a system. He sees Sharma as a natural fit, given his sustained career in cricket.

Freyr says it has installed more than 20,000 solar systems across over 40 cities. Its offering covers design, financing, installation and servicing.

Riding a Policy Tailwind

The timing is notable. Rooftop solar adoption is expanding under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. According to the company, eligible households can receive subsidy support of up to Rs 78,000.

That lowers the entry barrier. It also crowds the field with new providers. Trust becomes the differentiator, and a familiar face helps build it.

The Last Word

Solar is moving from a policy-led purchase to a brand-led one. When subsidies level the price, credibility decides the sale. Expect more energy players to turn to celebrity endorsers. The test is delivery. A 30-year promise needs service that outlasts the ad.
